Headteacher's Welcome
A warm welcome to Westover Green Community School and Autism Centre. We are a large primary school near to the town centre of Bridgwater. Our school is organised across 14 classes – 2 classes for each year group from Reception to Year 6 and we have an autism centre on site for learners with a diagnosis of autism or a communication and interaction need.
We are a forward‑thinking school with innovative leaders, dedicated staff, and committed governors. Our caring and highly skilled team works tirelessly to champion every child, removing any potential barriers to learning and nurturing their curiosity, supporting them to become life‑long learners who achieve their full potential.
To help our pupils grow into confident, well‑rounded individuals, we embed The Westover Way into all aspects of school life. We take great pride in our high-quality care, inclusive ethos, and ambitious curriculum, all of which ensure that every child develops a strong sense of who they are.
Despite being close to the town centre, we are fortunate to have a large forest school area featuring a range of native trees and plants, a pond, an outdoor classroom, and a fire pit. Our Forest School is in use every day, all day. Every child in Reception, Year 1, and our Autism Centre takes part in a weekly Forest School session throughout the year. At Westover, we value the importance of outdoor learning as a way to promote children’s health and well-being, while also supporting their personal development, communication skills, and motor control. In addition to whole-class sessions, we also offer small-group forest school interventions for children with an Education, Health and Care Plan, as well as those who may benefit from additional support.
At Westover Green, we are proud to offer a rich programme of enrichment clubs that inspire children’s interests and broaden their experiences beyond the classroom. With a wide range of opportunities—such as table tennis, LEGO Club, craft club, cookery club and violin lessons—there is something for every child to enjoy and explore. Our wraparound care further supports families by providing a safe, nurturing environment from 8:00am to 5:30pm, ensuring children are well looked after and engaged throughout the school day.
In addition to this, we celebrate the arts through our vibrant Westover Performers programme, which brings together children from across the school in show choir, dance, and drama. Our talented pupils work with passion and confidence to create high‑quality performances, and in recent years they have wowed audiences with musical spectaculars such as Matilda and The Wizard of Oz. These opportunities not only showcase our children’s creativity and teamwork but also help them to develop self‑belief, resilience, and a lifelong love of the performing arts.
As proud members of the Futura Learning Partnership, we benefit from being part of a collaborative family of schools. This partnership enables us to share expertise, strengthen professional development, and enrich the opportunities available to our children. Working together across the trust helps us continually improve, ensuring that every pupil at Westover Green receives the very best education and experiences.

We warmly encourage visits to our inclusive school, and we urge you to come and visit us when the children are working, so that you can see first-hand the rich learning environment that our staff work so hard to create. Please contact the school office and I will be delighted to take the time to show you and your child around our inclusive school.
